Contact Lenses

We fit and evaluate all types of contact lenses including disposable, extended wear, toric (for astigmatism), bifocal, gas permeable (including for keratoconus) and cosmetic colored contact lenses. We offer the latest technology in lenses including CIBA Night and Day which allows safe wear for up to 30 days of continuous use and the new Acuvue Oasys lens which is designed to be the most comfortable lens on the market, especially for those with dry eyes.

What is a toric?

A toric contact lens is designed to correct astigmatism. With the latest toric designs patients with high amounts of astigmatism can see 20/20 and enjoy comfortable contact lens wear in soft lenses. In the past 5 years, many new toric designs have become available. Many patients who were once told they had to wear a rigid or hard contact lens can now be refit into the new soft toric contact lenses.

What is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a refractive vision problem. An astigmatic eye has two different prescriptions in different directions at the same time. Astigmatism is not a disease. Instead, the astigmatic eye is often described as being shaped oval instead of round. If the astigmatic eye is oval, then a toric contact lens can be considered an oval contact lens to match the oval shape of the eye.

The diagrams above demonstrate how an eye can have more than one prescription, or power, at the same time. The eye on the top left is spherical because it has the same power in all meridians. The astigmatic eye on the top right has a stronger power (-6.00) in the horizontal meridian than in the vertical meridian (-3.00). The eye on the bottom also has astigmatism, but it is oblique because the rotation is turned 45 degrees from the horizontal.

Continuous Wear

CIBA VISION Introduces Focus Night & Day
An FDA panel has ruled that patients can safely sleep in Focus Night & Day lenses for up to 30 days at a time. These new lenses allow patients to sleep safely in their contacts and wakeup to crisp vision first thing in the morning, without the risks of surgery. Focus NIGHT & DAY lenses also are a good alternative to laser vision surgery for the millions of individuals who desire around-the-clock clear vision but who are not good candidates for the procedure or who are averse to it because of its high costs, invasiveness, non-reversibility and potential complications

Focust Night and Day

Focus NIGHT & DAY lenses are made from a revolutionary, new, fluro-silicone hydrogel material that supplies six times more oxygen to the eye (an oxygen transmissibility of 175 Dk/t) than ordinary disposable lenses and 40 percent more oxygen than the minimum threshold (125 Dk/t) recognized by independent researchers for overnight wear of lenses. The unique, biocompatible properties of the lenses also help minimize deposit buildup over time.

Insufficient oxygen compromises normal eye function and may cause the cornea to swell. While minimal swelling is common during sleep, even in people who do not wear contact lenses, sleeping in ordinary contact lenses substantially reduces oxygen supply to the eyes which can cause the cornea to swell significantly and often results in very irritated eyes and uncomfortable lens wear. In research studies users wearing Focus NIGHT & DAY lenses experienced minimal swelling similar to those wearing no lens at all and significantly less limbal redness than is typically seen with soft contact lens wear.
